Olivia CoverOlivia Kidney
by Ellen Potter
art by Peter H. Reynolds
Olivia Kidney's new apartment building is pretty crazy. There are talking lizards crawling everywhere, an exiled princess haunting the hallways and even a rainforest in one of the apartments. Here's a fun summer read for girls ages eight and up. I'm not sure I'd like an apartment with glass floors but it's lots of fun to read about it.

ABCs of HALLOWEEN by Patricia Reeder Eubank
Ideals Children's Books $8.95 Ages 3 to adult

ABC Halloween
Local author and illustrator, Patricia Reeder Eubank, has followed her best-selling Seaman's Journal: On the Trail with Lewis and Clark with a whimsical look at Halloween. ABCs of Halloween joins two charmingly curious black cats exploring the alphabet of treats, creeks, and creeps that make Halloween so eerily delightful. We are treated to dangerous dragons, jeering jack-o-lanterns, mysterious moaning monsters, umpteen unseen unicorns and, of course, young trick-or- treaters yowling and prowling. Children will be captivated by the simple melodious rhymes, perfect for reading aloud and memorizing. There is much to see in Eubank's colorful illustrations the paintings will grab a child's imagination and not let go. This is sure to become a Halloween favorite. Expect to hear someone say; "Read it again, please!"

Patricia Eubank has graciously agreed to sign books at The Book Loft on Saturday, October 18th from 2 to 4 o'clock.

The Second Summer of the Sisterhood Second Summer Cover
by Ann Brashares
Once there were four girls who shared a pair of pants. The girls were all different sizes and shapes, yet the pants fit each of them. You may think this is an suburban myth but I know it's true. The second summer brings surprises and still the rules.
Here are just two of the rules regarding the use of the traveling pants:
1. You must never wash the Pants.
2. You must never double-cuff the Pants. It's tacky. There will never be a time when this will not be tacky.

Happy Happy CoverThe Happy Happy Hocky Family moves to the Country! by Lane Smith
So many new people have moved into the valley in the last few months and years, maybe they would like a short primer to remind them why they moved here. The Hocky family moved to the country too! With them you'll find out about farm animals, leaky roofs, parades, poison ivy (not a problem here, but watch out for that poison oak!), and squirrels. The only thing missing is the cow-chip bingo. You'll have to experience that on your own.

Behave CoverHow to Behave and Why
by Munro Leaf
Originally published in 1946 How to Behave and Why is still one of the best children's books on the subject. As stated on the very first page: "This is really a book about how to have the most fun in living, and it doesn't matter whether you are a boy or a girl, a man or a woman- the rules are the same." It really is time for all of us to review the rules. I am happy to say this is a best seller in The Book Loft.
